Denize is a genuine, smart, kind-hearted, strong woman. She is also a wife, a teacher, a mother to three beautiful children and a small business owner. I honestly, don’t know how she does it all.
Why is she an inspiration to me?
A few years ago, Denize started a small business called 3ION Designs (the letters are the initials of her children’s names) featuring handmade items for all of life’s events, big or small! I admired the fact that she was able to find time in her already hectic schedule to do something for herself, something that she was passionate about and enjoyed doing. She showed other working moms and me that it is possible to do more while working full-time and being an attentive mother to her three children.
Denize is the perfect addition to our inspirational women series. We created this series, as it’s important for us to share stories from other women, to hear their accomplishments, regrets, advice and vision. We all have different journeys. But, we can definitely learn from and empower each other.
What is your biggest accomplishment thus far and why?
It’s hard for me to name my biggest accomplishment, there have been many things that I’ve done that I’m pretty proud of. However, I guess I’ve taken steps or made decisions that weren’t in my comfort zone, but praying about it and knowing they were opportunities that would stretch me and build character. For instance, moving abroad on my own to work/travel and start my own small business while growing a young family.
Looking back on your life thus far, is there anything you regret?
Looking back, I don’t think I regret any major choices I’ve made. I do wish I would have taken every opportunity to spend more time with those I care about.
What is the best piece of advice you can give another woman?
Trust in yourself!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I would like to travel with my kids more. I’ve spoken to them about the places I’ve been to, and we like to talk about where we would like to explore. I think my eldest daughter has the spirit of travel, one of her favourite pretend play is to pack her suitcase and board a plane.
What is the best piece of advice given to you?
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received was from my grandmother. She would say, “Never want what others have because you never truly know what they have.” I think this is so true in our present day. We are flooded with images on social media and a camera being snapped at every turn.
What do you think stops a woman or yourself from putting herself first?
I think what stops me from putting myself first is not being able to say “no” and establish healthy boundaries. I guess the people-pleasing side can get the better of me!
What three words, could be used to describe you?
I hope these words would be said about me, as I strive to live these out… fair, genuine, and reliable.
