Hi all, and happy Friday!
In June, I decided to challenge myself and try out the vegan lifestyle for 30 days. No meat, no dairy, and in my mind, it meant no food. I was skeptical, as I was in the bucket of people that thought vegans or plant-based diets were crazy. As the weeks continued, I saw the preverbal light.
For those that missed my insta story, the first step to my 30-day vegan adventure was grocery shopping. I went to Sobey’s (a local grocery chain) to get all my staples. They have a large selection of plant-based items. I also made sure I picked up a multivitamin, B Complex, and probiotic.
I loosely planned out my meals, ensuring I was eating at least three times per day, and by the end of the week, I was pleasantly surprised. I had a ton of energy, I hadn’t missed meat, and consumed a ton of food without feeling sluggish or bloated.
Week 2 & 3
I mastered my meals and even started researching vegan restaurants I could try. The most significant change at this point was my digestion. Before the change, unless I was exercising, my digestive system was very slow. With-in 3 weeks of cutting out most process foods, dairy, and meat, my body was operating like a smooth criminal. LOL.
By week four, I wasn’t even thinking about meat (dairy was another story as I LOVE pizza). And, I had decided to keep most aspects of the lifestyle. But, I plan to incorporate fish and dairy back into the mix in moderation. My ability to create a delicious filling meal without meat was mocked by most and hesitantly tried by others.
To be honest, I don’t really agree with taking food groups out of your diet unless it’s necessary. However, my body thrived on the quick digestion and lack of processed foods, so I knew something had to give. I decided to become 85% vegan lol. I’ll eat fish once a week or every other week, and I’ll eat dairy once a week. I encourage trying a plant-based diet for at least 30 days. It’s not for everyone, but you never know until you try. I mean look at Cara, she’s been vegan for seven months and hasn’t looked back.
